The Lagos State Examinations Board hereby notify all Public and Private Secondary Schools, Teachers, Candidates, and relevant Stakeholders that the underlisted poems have been officially approved for the 2025/2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Literature-in-English.

For Lagos State BECE (JSS3), the Literature texts change every session. *For 2025/2026 session* - the current one, this is the official list from Lagos State Examinations Board TEDAC Unit:

The Board released only poems for this year, schools are to use the general prose/drama from approved booklist. The poems are:

Lagos BECE timetable for 2026 is out, but the Literature texts for 2026/2027 is still the same as 2025/2026 that TEDAC released in Feb 2026. They use the same texts for 2-3 years before changing.

*So for your JSS3 this term (2026/2027), teach this:*

This is the *Lagos State Government, Ministry of Basic & Secondary Education - Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA)* Approved Booklist for *Literature-in-English JSS1 - JSS3* being used for *2025/2026 / 2026/2027 BECE Session.*

For JSS, Lagos does not prescribe one book for all schools. The OEQA approves *3 Groups - PROSE, DRAMA, POETRY* and schools pick *ONE book per group per class.* This is the current approved pool:

For JSS1 and JSS2 Continuous Assessment, your school HOD will select 1 Prose + 1 Drama + 1 Poetry from the JSS1/JSS2 pool.

For *JSS3 BECE Literature*, the school must teach at least 1 Prose, 1 Drama, 1 Poetry from the JSS3 list above, as BECE questions will be set from them.

If you want the exact 3 books your child's school is using this term, check the school's own booklist - it must be from this OEQA pool, otherwise the school is using unapproved books.
