NAPPS NIGERIA TEACHERS’ DAY 2026 MESSAGE
On behalf of the National Executive Council of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) Nigeria, we warmly celebrate teachers across Nigeria on the occasion of the 2026 Teachers’ Day.
This year’s theme, “Standing with Teachers: 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Advancing its Status and Shaping our Future,” is both timely and instructive. It calls attention to the responsibility of all stakeholders to protect the teaching profession, strengthen its standing in society, and create the conditions that enable teachers to make their fullest contribution to the future of education and our society.
Teachers are the foundation upon which every successful education system is built. Every doctor, engineer, economist, entrepreneur, scientist, lawyer, administrator, and leader has, at some point, been guided by a teacher.
A teacher does not merely teach a subject. A teacher shapes a mind, builds confidence, nurtures character, and unlocks human potential. The influence of a dedicated teacher often extends far beyond the classroom, leaving an enduring mark on the lives of learners and the communities they eventually serve.
Standing with teachers must therefore go beyond celebrating them on Teachers’ Day. It requires deliberate efforts to protect the dignity and integrity of the profession, promote continuous professional development, provide access to modern teaching resources, improve working conditions, and ensure that teachers receive the recognition and respect their responsibilities deserve.
As education continues to evolve, teachers must also be empowered to evolve with it. Innovation, digital technology, and artificial intelligence are changing the way knowledge is accessed and learning is delivered. However, technology must remain a tool in the hands of a skilled and professionally respected teacher, not a substitute for the human connection, mentorship, empathy, and guidance at the heart of education.
For NAPPS Nigeria, this is particularly important. Private schools constitute a significant part of Nigeria’s education ecosystem, and our teachers work every day to educate and nurture millions of Nigerian children. We recognise their commitment, creativity, sacrifices, and resilience, often under challenging circumstances.
We believe that advancing the status of the teaching profession requires a stronger partnership among government, school proprietors, teachers, parents, professional bodies, and other stakeholders. Together, we must build an education system where teachers are not only expected to deliver, but are adequately supported, respected and empowered to excel.
Standing with teachers means protecting the profession.
Advancing the status of teachers means investing in their development and wellbeing.
Shaping our future means giving teachers the tools and support to prepare the next generation.
As we commemorate Teachers’ Day, NAPPS Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to constructive engagement with government and other stakeholders towards policies that strengthen the teaching profession, improve educational quality, and create a sustainable environment for both public and private education to thrive.
To every teacher across the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, we celebrate you.
Your classroom may be small, but your influence is enormous. The lives you touch today will help determine the society we inherit tomorrow.
Happy Teachers’ Day to the men and women who dedicate themselves to protecting knowledge, nurturing minds, building character, and shaping Nigeria’s and Africa’s future.
May your dedication continue to inspire generations.
