Your Ph.D Thesis will be easier to write correctly if you observe this sequence
1. Before you decide on a topic, use the 'see a problem' method or access the limitations/future research suggestions of current quartiled paper. Note that a current paper is a paper published within the last 5 years and quartiles are Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4.
2. After you are clear on the direction of the topic, identify the problem the topic solves, the solution it brings, the method you will use and the application.
3. Refine the topic in the Method-Problem-Solution-Application(MPSA) or the PICO framework.
4. Write the Problem statement in one paragraph.
5. Write the thesis statement
6. Conceive research questions
7. Develop the Aim and Objectives (4-5).
8. With the research questions, go to Scholar Labs, Elicit or Consensus. For every research question, get 15 papers that supports the question. If you use Elicit, just put your topic as a prompt and it will convert to 3 questions on the problem, solution and gaps. Download these papers.
9. Feed these papers to NotebookLM and STRIP in common themes.
10. Now write your Chapter 1 in this wise;
- Background of study (PGS framework)
- Statement of the Problem
- Aim and Objectives
- Significance
- Scope and Delimitation
11. With the Objectives, return to Elicit, Consensus and Google Scholar Labs to search for literatures that support each objective. About 30 literatures for each objective.
12. Feed the literatures to NotebookLM and STRIP for common themes that Support the Conceptual framework, Theoretical framework and the Empirical.
13. With these literatures (about 80), write Chapter 2 in this wise;
2.1 Conceptual framework
Write the conceptual framework that supports each objective, supported with the literature you STRIPPED in 12 above.
2.2. Theoretical framework of each objective
2.3. Empirical framework of each objective.
2.4. Gaps analysis
14. Return to Google Scholar or Scholar Labs to find works with similar methods like your work. Identify two or more. This is your seed paper.
15. Adapt the method you find to your particular research. Don't copy, adapt.
16. Set up experimental, field work, models or theories to achieve your solution direction.
17. Report this as your method section. In section 3.2, report the method for obtaining each of the objectives. You should have such sub-sections as;
3.2.1. Methods of obtaining objective 1
3.2.2. Method of obtaining objective 2
14. Use any appropriate tool to analyze the Data you have obtained. Make research optimised plots and tables. Arrange them according to your objectives in Chapter 1.
15. Now write the Results Chapter.
Arrange the results per objective. You should have 5 sub-sections of results if you have 5 objectives. A common rule in most places is to place figures and tables in different pages.
