Retirement Preparation

‎The Day I Realized 30 Years of Hard Work Can End With Nothing
‎
‎They threw him a big retirement party.
‎Music, speeches, food everywhere.
‎People clapped and called him “a man of integrity”, someone who gave his youth to a job.
‎
‎But when the noise was over, he went home to a quiet, empty room… and an envelope.
‎Inside was his gratuity, just enough to clear debts and maybe fix the leaking roof.
‎
‎Thirty years of service.
‎No house in his name.
‎No business.
‎No investments.
‎Just a pension that can’t survive inflation.
‎
‎
‎This is the story of millions of Nigerians.
‎We work hard. We stay loyal. We never miss a day at work.
‎But we never learn how money works.
‎
‎We think salary is security.
‎We call bank savings an INVESTMENT.
‎We trust THE SYSTEM to take care of us.
‎
‎Meanwhile…
‎
‎Someone who started a small bakery 15 years ago now owns 3 houses.
‎
‎Someone who bought land in 2005 now earns rent every month without lifting a finger.
‎
‎Someone who invested ₦50,000 in shares now makes more from dividends than many managers’ salaries.
‎
‎
‎The truth is bitter, Hard work alone doesn’t make you wealthy, financial literacy does.
‎
‎If you keep living the same way, retirement will come with regret, not reward.
‎
‎Nigeria is full of opportunities:
‎
‎Land you can buy for the price of a new phone.
‎
‎Businesses you can start with the cost of one aso ebi.
‎
‎Investments that pay you while you sleep.
‎
‎
‎But if you don’t learn how to multiply your money, you will spend your life working for it, and retire with nothing to show for it.
‎
‎
‎Stop clapping for LONG SERVICE. Start building assets.
‎
‎Stop waiting for a salary increase. Start increasing your income streams.
‎
‎Stop blaming the economy. Learn the rules of money and play to win.
‎
‎Because the day you retire, nobody will remember your YEARS OF SERVICE.
‎They’ll only ask, “What did you build?”
‎
‎
I break free from financial ignorance.

WHOEVER WROTE THIS DESERVES A MEDAL!

"You Cannot Retire"

I have come to this conclusion, not just from books or sermons, but from the steady drumbeat of real life. From watching friends, colleagues, family members, great men—men of wisdom, strength, and wealth—choose to retire... only to quietly fade into sickness, into sorrow, and then, far too soon, into the arms of death.

Retirement, in the way the world understands it, is not rest—it is resignation. Resignation from purpose. From duty. From the creative tension that keeps the spirit vibrant and alert.

We are taught that everything in Creation is in motion. Motion is life. Motion is law.
Look around you:

*. Rivers flow ceaselessly—wherever the current breaks off, water *. stagnates and death settles in.
*. The Earth rotates without pause.
*. The seasons march in perfect obedience.
*. Even the great stars above us dance in eternal cycles, never swerving, never stalling.

Man is no exception.

We were not made to rest. We were made to strive, to build, to create, to solve, to nurture.
The moment we choose to withdraw from life’s current, to step out of the stream and into the stagnant pool of ‘retirement,’ something begins to wither—first in the mind, then in the body, then in the soul.

You cannot retire from being alive.

What is needed is not retirement—but redirection. A man may leave a career, yes, but he must never leave his calling. He must find another field where his hands are needed, where his thoughts must still labor, where his spirit can continue to serve.

Inactivity is an invitation to decay.

A man must have something that:

* Keeps him curious,
* Keeps him responsible,
* Keeps him accountable,
* Keeps him needed.
For as long as breath remains, there must be engagement—with God, with purpose, with people, with destiny.

Even a candle in its last inch must burn with dignity, casting light until the final flicker.
Even in old age, the tree must still bear fruit—or at least cast shade.
Even at sunset, the sky must still paint itself with glory.

I speak this not only for myself but for all who may be tempted to think their work is done because the world says “retire.”

No. You may rest. You may change lanes. But you must never stop moving.

To stop is to rust.
To rust is to rot.
And to rot is to die—before your time.

So keep moving, my brothers & sisters. Keep thinking. Keep building. Keep giving. Keep creating.
Keep becoming.

That is the law. That is the way. That is life.

THE DAY I REALIZED THAT 35 YEARS OF HARD WORK… OR EVEN 65/70 YEARS OF AGE… CAN STILL END WITH EMPTY HANDS

They organized a grand retirement ceremony for him.
Music everywhere. Beautiful speeches.
People calling him “a man of integrity,” someone who gave his strength and youth to a system he believed would reward him.

But when the celebration ended, he walked into a quiet room… holding nothing but an envelope.

Inside was his gratuity.

Enough to clear debts.
Enough to repair a leaking roof. But not enough to build a future.

Thirty years of service…
Yet:
No house.
No business.
No investment.
Just a pension too small to fight inflation.

This is the hidden story of millions.
We work.
We stay loyal.
We pray.
But many of us never learn how money grows.

We believe salary equals security. We call “saving” investing. We expect the system to take care of us — forgetting the system is not structured to make us wealthy.

*A PAINFUL EXAMPLE MANY WON’T ADMIT*

I regret buying a car in 2011/2012. That car cost ₦1.5 million.

At that time, ₦1.5 million could buy three plots of land in a certain area.

Fast-forward to 2025…

One plot of land there is now ₦20 million.

Three plots = ₦60 million today.

But can I sell that same car for ₦20 million in 2025? No. In fact, it is worth almost nothing.

That is how money behaves:
Assets grow.
Liabilities decay.

This is why some people retire with tears.

*THE BITTER BUT NECESSARY TRUTH*

Hard work alone doesn’t create wealth. Wisdom, knowledge, and financial insight do.

“By wisdom a house is built…” Not by effort alone.

Nigeria is full of opportunities:

Land cheaper than a new phone. Businesses that cost less than one aso ebi. Investments that grow while you sleep.

But if you don’t learn how multiplication works, you will spend your whole life chasing money… and retire with nothing to show for it.

*THE CALL TO WISDOM*

Stop clapping for long service. Start building long-term assets. Stop waiting for salary increase. Start increasing income streams. Stop blaming the economy. Start learning the laws of wealth.

Because when you retire, nobody will ask how many years you served.
They will ask:
“What did you build?”

This message is a sincere warning, a prayer, to everyone of us still in government/public service or private organization.

Please take it seriously.

May God give you the wisdom to make decisions today that will reward you tomorrow.

Plan wisely against your retirement and a life after retirement

OUR PARENTS MADE AN EMPLOYMENT MISTAKE WE SHOULD NOT MAKE TODAY

Some of our parents worked for the big companies and firms. They made good money, enjoyed life and were fulfilled in their own ways. But for most of them, once they were laid off or retired, they became miserable, unable to generate income from their years of experience and training. They became pensioners, dependent so heavily on their Children and some died early.

Their mistake wasn't that they didn't plan for the future, some did. Their mistake was that while working with the big firms and companies they got too disconnected from life outside the company. They never expanded their training beyond the roles they were employed for. Those who were employed as Well riggers, only knew well rigging for 20years. Those employed as forklift operators, stayed within that domain. Those in operations only did operations and the likes. Thus, upon retirement, all they knew about life was just that role they were employed in. Unfortunately, outside that big firm, some roles cannot generate income independently. Some roles also require too much physical strength that their bodies couldn't deliver at old age.

I have observed this with Professors, Bankers, Oil company employees. They stay too long in a particular role, learn nothing or try nothing beyond their employed roles and become obsolete ones they are laid off or retired.

Let's not make same mistake.

While you are with that company or big firm or University, stay connected with the outside World. Take courses, follow the trends, learn trading, see the opportunities social media brings and be vast.

Don't spend your active years in an isolated sector only to retire and become a pawn in the hands of Government as a pensioner.
