SOLIDARITY RALLY IN SUPPORT OF ABDUCTED TEACHERS AND LEARNERS

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE STATE SECRETARY, NIGERIA UNION OF TEACHERS, LAGOS STATE WING

TO ALL MEMBERS

Dear Comrades,

SOLIDARITY RALLY IN SUPPORT OF ABDUCTED TEACHERS AND LEARNERS

The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Lagos State Wing, expresses profound concern and deep sadness over the continued captivity of teachers and learners abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on 15th May, 2026.

The Union is particularly disturbed by reports indicating the traumatic, inhumane, and deplorable conditions under which the abducted teachers and learners are being held. The uncertainty surrounding their welfare and the absence of any clear indication regarding their rescue and safe release remain a source of great concern to teachers and education stakeholders across the country.

In view of the continued detention of our colleagues and learners by their abductors, and in response to the directive of the National Leadership of the Union, all State Wings of NUT have been mandated to organise peaceful solidarity rallies on Tuesday, 2nd June, 2026, to demand the immediate, unconditional, and safe release of all kidnapped teachers and learners in Oyo State and other parts of the Federation.

Accordingly, the Lagos State Wing of the Union shall hold its solidarity rally as follows:

Date: Tuesday, 2nd June, 2026
Time: 7:00 a.m.
Take-off Point: Ikeja Under Bridge, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja
Destination: Governor’s Office, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja

All members are required to attend the rally dressed in NUT-branded vests, polo shirts, or Ankara fabric, accompanied by NUT caps as a symbol of unity and solidarity.

Please note that participation in the rally is mandatory for all State Officers. In addition, all Branches are directed to mobilise and bring their approved number of members to ensure a successful and impactful outing.

This rally is not only a demonstration of solidarity with our abducted colleagues and learners but also a collective call for improved security in our schools and communities. We owe it to our colleagues, the affected learners, and their families to stand together at this critical time.

The Union remains committed to pursuing every lawful means necessary to secure the safe release of all victims and to protect the interests and welfare of teachers and learners across the nation.

An injury to one is an injury to all.

Thank you for your cooperation and solidarity.

Comradely Yours,

SIGNED:
ASST. SECRETARY
FOR: STATE SECRETARY
