TRCN LICENCE RENEWAL – CLARIFICATION TO ALL TEACHERS IN LAGOS STATE
Dear Comrades,
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Lagos State, in its commitment to the welfare of teachers, held consultations with all relevant stakeholders in the Education Sector on the renewal of the TRCN Teaching Licence when it was introduced.
Rather than subjecting teachers to the rigours and stress of making a lump-sum payment for the three-year licence renewal, an arrangement was reached for the applicable renewal fee to be spread over the year period through monthly deductions from teachers’ salaries, based on the certificates/qualifications presented.
Consequently, the TRCN-related deduction appearing monthly on teachers’ payslips represents the agreed contribution towards the three-year licence renewal.
The NUT, Lagos State, will facilitate the payment to TRCN on behalf of teachers, thereby saving teachers the stress of individual payment and the associated administrative rigours.
Teachers are therefore advised not to panic over the deduction appearing on their payslips, as it is part of the agreed arrangement for the renewal of their TRCN licences.
NUT Lagos State remains committed to protecting the interests, welfare and professional dignity of all teachers.
Solidarity Forever!
For instance:
A PhD holder will have: #585.00 deducted monthly
A Master holder will have: #500.00 deducted monthly
A Bachelor/PGDE holder will have: #350.00 monthly deduction on his/her payslip.
An NCE holder will have #250.00 deducted monthly for his license fee monthly by the Union. #250.00 × 12 = #3000,00 which is the amount payable for his/her TRCN license.
4 May 1993: The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) was legally established under TRCN Decree No. 31 of 1993. The current TRCN also confirms this history.

June 2000: TRCN became operational, following the appointment of its first Registrar/Chief Executive. Its nationwide institutionalisation and registration of teachers then accelerated between 2000 and 2005.
