Competitive courses Admission Wisdom

Please note for those of you who chose competitive courses in HEALTH LINE like Medicine, Pharmacy, Radiography, Nursing, Phamacology Physioterapy, MLS, Dentistry, Vet medicine Nutrition and Dietectics, Anatomy, Physiology, Public health, Health Information Management, Environmental Health Science, etc.

ENGINEERING COURSES: Like Electrical engineering, Civil engineering, Mechanical engineering, Agricultural engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering and Chemical engineering, etc.

COMPUTING: Like Computer science, Software engineering, system engineering, information system, cyber security, etc.

PURE AND APPLIED SCIENCES: Like
Microbiology, Biochemistry, SLT, Plant biology, Zoology, Biotechnology, Statistics, Industrial Chemistry, Chemistry, FST, etc.

LAW, Accounting, Mass Communication, etc.

Will be very competitive this year because of the number of applicants and this year has the highest number of registered Utme candidates

So Taking Uniosun or Osun state university as an example if for Medicine they need 100 students in that department and over 300 students applied. Not all the 300 students will be admitted because the University or Institution have a quota they must admit and graduate in that department, so admission will be based on

MERIT( beating the cut off mark of the course so as to have an edge to enter) having a high jamb score i.e if for Nursing in Uniben the Utme score to enter is 310 as the Utme cut off mark, meaning you should have nothing less than 310 but have more than 310 in the Utme to secure your spot or be considered for admission.

CATCHMENT AREA (Region where University primary serves e.g for UNILAG the catchment area is Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti.

SCREENING/POST UTME: Some universities do screening or post Utme and when getting your screening it's the addition of your O'level( 5 compulsory core subjects in waec) For example science students are Mathematics English, Chemical, Biology and Physics + whatever you get in your Utme divided by 8 will be over 50. If for example Utme score is 320 then it will be 320/8 =40 then screening after calculating it the person gets 38 then the total will be 78 as aggregate, imagine the person chose medicine and he/she isn't an Indigene of Osun and he chose Uniosun as his/her university and the cut off to enter medicine is 85 as aggregate, the person won't enter at all. that's when you see that the institution gives people another course and they are not happy it's because of this.

On the other hand if the person is an Indigene of Osun and chose Osun state university as the course is medicine, the person might be considered for another course that his/ her cut off mark reaches.

POST UTME: Is done by the use of CBT for Universities that does post Utme like UNILAG as an example English, Mathematics, and General Papers are the subjects to do during post Utme.

Same process goes to other course students have chosen be it by screening or post Utme.

Please for those of who chose professional courses like Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Radiography, MLS, Physioterapy, Dentistry, Vet Medicine, SLT, Engineering courses and Law, ask questions to know if the course are accredited to avoid waiting for too long in the university for a course of 5 or 6 yrs because of non accreditation of the course.
If those courses aren't accredited there's no way you can write professional exam and beside after the stipulated years of that course elapses you will only be given B.S.C in that field of choice meanwhile other degrees are meant to be collected along side your B.S.C

ACCREDITATION OF COURSE: means it has been formally evaluated and approved by an external, independent body to ensure it meets high-quality academic and professional standards.

Aside courses that aren't professional please ask questions to avoid course of 4 yrs not to turn to 6 yrs or more and if it's not accredited you will keep paying school fees till that course is accredited and by that time the individual would have spent more than the stipulated years in the university.

Share this information to your friends.

If You Want to Study Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy or MLS, Prepare for These 6 Things

1. You will read more than you ever imagined:
These courses are not for “exam reading.” You must study consistently to truly understand.

2. Sleep may become a luxury:
There will be periods of tight schedules, practicals, clinical postings, assignments, tests, and exhausting exams.

3. One carryover can affect you seriously:These courses are highly demanding academically, and some schools have strict progression rules.

4. Your social life may reduce:
Sometimes while others are relaxing, you may still be studying for tests or preparing for practicals.

5. Discipline matters more than intelligence:Many brilliant students struggle because they lack consistency and focus.

6. The journey is long:
These are notquick courses. Patience and endurance are necessary.

But despite the stress, many students graduate proudly and become successful professionals.

So if this is truly your dream, prepare your mind the Journey ahead.
