Change of Course in JAMB

[Bartholomew Sola]

𝗕𝗘𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗟𝗬 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗝𝗔𝗠𝗕 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲… 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧!

Thousands of students are rushing to change course after seeing their UTME scores
But wait o… changing course without thinking well can destroy your admission chances completely

Here are 3 IMPORTANT THINGS you must consider before doing JAMB Change of Course in 2026

1. 𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗖𝗞 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗘 𝗖𝗨𝗧-𝗢𝗙𝗙 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗞
No choose course because your friend chose it
Make sure your JAMB score can actually meet the departmental cut-off for that course in your school of choice.

Example:
You scored 180 and want to switch to Nursing with 250 cut-off?
You may just be wasting your money.

2. 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗜𝗙 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗦𝗨𝗕𝗝𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗕𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡
This one is very important!
Even if your score is high, wrong JAMB subjects can still deny you admission.

Imagine applying for Engineering without Physics
Always confirm the required subjects before changing.

3. 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗥 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗟𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟
Some courses are extremely competitive every year: Medicine
Law
Nursing
Computer Science

If your score is average, it may be smarter to choose a related course with lower competition instead of risking everything.

Admission is not only about “big course names”…
Smart strategy matters too.

CHANGE OF COURSE AND INSTITUTION - MAIN IDEAS

1. When to change
Do it only after JAMB result is out.
Consider changing if your score is below the realistic cut-off for your course, your school is too competitive, or your O’level result does not meet the requirement.
Do not change out of panic or because you are copying friends.

2. Be real with your score
150 to 180: Do not force Law, Medicine, Nursing
180 to 220: Be strategic with courses and schools
220 plus: You have better chances but still plan wisely
Admission is about strategy, not pride.

3. Best time to do it
Before Post-UTME forms fully come out.
Immediately you see your chances are low.
Why: Some schools will not consider you if you change too late.

4. How to do it step by step
Go to the official JAMB Portal
Click Correction of Data
Select Change of Course or Change of Institution
Make payment
Choose wisely

5. Common mistakes to avoid
Changing to another competitive course with the same low score
Following friends blindly
Ignoring subject combination
Not checking school requirements
Waiting too late

6. Smart strategy
Pick a course your score can actually carry
Consider less competitive schools
Have a backup plan
Smart students do not gamble with one option.

7. Key point
Change of course or institution is not a sign of failure. It is a strategy used by students who understand how admission works.
Make the right move now and you will not be writing JAMB again next year.
