A lot of people are misunderstanding the new JAMB cut-off mark, so let me explain it clearly
JAMB reducing the general cut-off mark does NOT mean every school will automatically reduce their own cut-off mark.
What JAMB announced is just the minimum score schools are allowed to accept.
For example:
• Universities can now admit from the approved minimum score.
• Polytechnics and monotechnics can also admit from their own minimum range.
• Colleges of Nursing too.
But the truth is:
Every school still has the right to set their own departmental or school cut-off mark depending on:
• Number of applicants
• Competition for the course
• Performance of candidates
For example:
If a school normally accepts Nursing from 240, they may still keep it high because many students applied.
But courses with lower competition may reduce.
So don’t just relax because JAMB reduced the cut-off mark. Your school and department still matter most.
The reduction only gives more students a chance to participate in admission screening — it is not automatic admission.
Advice:
• Keep checking your school updates.
• Prepare for Post-UTME if your school does it.
• Don’t lose hope if your score is not too high because some schools may truly reduce theirs.
Admission this year may be more flexible for some courses and schools.
