Outgoing JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede says he is returning to classroom and religious activities after 10-year tenure, saying he needs time to "go back and beg God" after demands of public service.

Oloyede spoke during handover to new Registrar Prof. Aina. He said:

"You cannot serve in these past 10 years without losing one spiritual quality or the other... We are in a very dangerous system that in one way or the other you will have violated your own principles. You need some time to go and beg God for what was done."

He attributed JAMB successes to staff commitment and expressed confidence successor will build on reforms.

On controversial 3-year ban on 2023 UTME candidate Mmesoma Ejikeme who inflated score from 249 to 362, Oloyede said he has no regrets, board acted to protect integrity.

"No hard feelings... She is our daughter. We did what we should do... It's not out of wickedness, but to serve as deterrent," he said.

New Registrar Prof. Aina pledged: "The integrity of JAMB is not negotiable. Those harbouring thoughts of outsmarting the system should abandon such plans."

Oloyede appointed 2016, oversaw CBT reforms, transparency and increased remittances to FG.

*Aina Assumes Office As JAMB Registrar, Pledges Tougher Fight Against Exam Malpractice*

Professor Segun Aina has officially assumed office as the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, whose two-term tenure ended on Friday after 10 years in office.

Aina took over the leadership of the examination body at JAMB’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the institution.

President Bola Tinubu had appointed Aina as the substantive registrar on May 21, describing him as a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure and public sector reforms.

The appointment also makes Aina, now 40, the youngest person to serve as JAMB registrar.

In his inaugural address, Aina pledged to preserve the credibility of the board while intensifying efforts to curb examination malpractice through the deployment of advanced technology.

He warned individuals involved in examination fraud to abandon such activities, stressing that JAMB would remain uncompromising in protecting the integrity of its examinations.

The new registrar also promised to strengthen collaboration with security agencies to detect, prevent and prosecute examination-related offences.

Aina succeeds Oloyede, under whose leadership JAMB implemented sweeping reforms, expanded the use of technology in its operations and recorded significant improvements in examination administration and revenue generation.

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results of underage candidates for viewing.

This is contained in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr Fabian Benjamin.

‎Benjamin, however, said that the release of the results did not confer eligibility for admission on all underage candidates, as only those who met its stringent requirements for exceptional consideration would be admitted.

‎He said an underage candidate for the 2026 admission exercise was any candidate who would be less than 16 years old as at September 30, 2026.

‎He said the results were released primarily to enable candidates and their parents or guardians to know their performance in the examination.

‎According to him, such results cannot be used for admission or any other official purpose, except in respect of candidates who satisfy the requirements prescribed for exceptionally performing underage candidates.

‎He said candidates could check their results by sending “RESULT” to 55019 or 66019 using the same SIM card with which they registered for the UTME.

‎Benjamin said the Board had earlier established that only exceptionally performing underage candidates who satisfied the prescribed conditions would be considered for admission.

‎He, therefore, advised candidates who did not meet the requirements for exceptional consideration not to present their results to any institution or individual for the purpose of securing admission.

‎The spokesperson said the exceptional admission process was deliberately rigorous and involved multiple stages of assessment to ensure that only candidates who demonstrated the required academic maturity and exceptional ability were considered.

‎He said one of the requirements for consideration was a minimum UTME score of 320, alongside a minimum of 80 per cent performance in relevant Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) subjects, where applicable.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has adjusted the arrival and examination times for candidates participating in the first session of the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Under the revised schedule:

Arrival at CBT Centre: 7:30 a.m.
First Session Examination Begins: 8:30 a.m.
First Session Examination Ends: 10:30 a.m.

Previously, candidates were expected to arrive at their designated Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres by 6:30 a.m.

According to JAMB, the adjustment is aimed at addressing safety and logistical concerns associated with very early-morning movement by candidates.

The Board noted that the concern is particularly important for candidates who travel long distances to their examination centres and may have to leave their homes before dawn.

Candidates and parents are advised to take note of the new timing and plan their movement accordingly.

2027 UTME: A SAFER START FOR CANDIDATES

JAMB has adjusted the arrival time for candidates in the first UTME examination session, moving it from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.

The adjustment is aimed at reducing the challenges associated with very early-morning travel, particularly for candidates travelling long distances to their CBT centres.

The decision was reached during the Board’s 2026 Management and IT Retreat, as part of efforts to make the 2027 UTME safer, more efficient and more convenient for candidates.

Please note: The new 7:00 a.m. arrival time applies to the first examination session. Further details on the complete 2027 UTME timetable will be communicated through JAMB’s official channels.

A safer journey. A better UTME experience.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has constituted a committee to develop a framework for incorporating life skills and critical thinking into the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, said the initiative is aimed at aligning the UTME with the changing demands of higher education and assessing skills candidates apply in real-life situations.

According to Aina, candidates are already assessed in subject areas through their O’Level examinations conducted by bodies such as WAEC and NECO. The proposed review is therefore expected to examine whether the current UTME structure remains effective in predicting candidates’ performance at the tertiary level.

The committee, made up of stakeholders from universities, examination bodies, professional regulatory councils, students’ groups, secondary schools and development organisations, has been given four weeks to submit its initial recommendations.

The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, represented at the event, urged the committee to develop fair, transparent and standardised assessment methods capable of measuring candidates’ analytical, logical and verbal reasoning abilities.

The proposed components may be embedded within existing UTME subjects, subject to the outcome of the committee’s review and JAMB’s subsequent assessment of the recommendations.

Note: The proposed changes are still under review and do not yet represent a confirmed change to the UTME format.

JAMB ACTIVATES O’LEVEL RESULT VERIFICATION PORTAL FOR WAEC CANDIDATES

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has activated its O’Level result verification portal for candidates with West African Examinations Council (WAEC) results as part of the ongoing processes for the 2026 admission exercise.

The activation provides eligible candidates with an opportunity to proceed with the verification of their WAEC credentials ahead of the consideration and processing of admissions by their preferred institutions.

Applicants should also ensure that the personal information attached to their O’Level records is accurate and consistent with the details on their JAMB and identification records to avoid complications during verification.

Candidates whose results have already been successfully uploaded on the JAMB portal are advised to follow JAMB's latest instructions regarding verification and avoid unnecessary duplication of their records.

I hereby advised all 2026 admission applicants to proceed with the verification of their O'Level results, as earlier announced.

Candidates whose verification has been successfully completed should receive a notification stating: “Your 2026 UTME O’Level Result has been verified and updated.”

According to JAMB, simply uploading your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result does not necessarily mean that the result has been verified.

Applicants are therefore advised to complete the required verification process and confirm that their result has been successfully updated.

Candidates should also ensure that the personal information contained in their O’Level result corresponds with their NIMC/NIN records, particularly their name and date of birth, to avoid complications during verification and the subsequent admission process.

Do not wait until the admission process is at an advanced stage. Verify your O’Level result now and confirm your status.

👉🏾As a responsive organisation committed to providing efficient and accessible services, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has facilitated the verification of candidates’ O’Level results directly from the various examination bodies responsible for conducting the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), beginning with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Consequently, candidates can now upload their O’Level results from the comfort of their homes, while the Board undertakes the verification of such results directly with the issuing examination bodies.

The initiative is part of the Board’s renewed commitment to making services easier, faster, safer and more convenient for candidates. By using technology to reduce unnecessary visits to CBT centres, queues and manual processes, JAMB is putting candidate ease of service delivery at the centre of its operations.

The new arrangement also addresses challenges associated with manual O’Level result uploads, including misplaced or mixed-up paper results, presentation of unverified or fraudulent results, and errors in the manual entry of subjects and grades. Through the integration of JAMB’s eFacility platform with examination bodies, results can now be verified directly against the examination body’s records before being downloaded into the candidate’s profile.

📢 UPDATE: JAMB TO HOLD UTME IN CANADA FROM 2027

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced plans to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination centre in Ottawa, Canada, where Nigerians in the country and other parts of North America will be able to sit for the examination from 2027.

The board disclosed this in a post on its official social media platforms, following a visit by its Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.

JAMB said the proposed centre would provide eligible Nigerians in Canada and other parts of North America with easier access to the UTME, particularly those seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

“The proposed centre will make it easier for Nigerians in the diaspora to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination,” the board said.

JAMB said the initiative was part of its efforts towards “taking Nigerian tertiary education to the world.”

JAMB WARNS INSTITUTIONS OVER ADMISSION LETTERS!!!`

JAMB has reportedly warned tertiary institutions against issuing official admission letters, emphasising its role in the official admission process.

📌 What candidates should know:
✅ Confirm your admission status on JAMB CAPS.
✅ Accept your admission where required.
✅ Print your official JAMB admission letter through the e-Facility portal when available.

Important: A school's admission letter does not replace the official JAMB admission letter.
